What is a silk press, and how long does it last?

·

A silk press is a blow-dry and flat-iron finishing service for natural, textured hair. No relaxer, no chemical straightening: your curl pattern stays exactly as it is, and the hair is styled smooth, soft and mirror-shiny using heat protectant, the right products and controlled iron work.

The result lasts until your next wash. For most people that is one to three weeks, depending on how you care for it at night and how much moisture is in the air. Water is what reverts the texture, so the usual culprits are rain, steam and heavy workouts.

To keep it going: wrap or pin at night with a satin scarf or bonnet, avoid water-based products on the hair, and let your stylist know your wash-day plans so the style is set for the right lifespan.

Because your natural pattern is untouched, a silk press is a lovely way to wear your hair straight for an occasion without committing to it. See the silk press page or book.
