A silk press takes natural, curly or coily hair to a smooth, moving finish using heat alone. No relaxer, no chemicals, and nothing permanent. Wash it out and your curl pattern comes back exactly as it was.
The result depends almost entirely on preparation. Hair is cleansed, deep conditioned and dried in sections before any flat iron goes near it, because pressing hair that is not properly dry or properly moisturised is how heat damage happens. Heat protectant goes on throughout, and the iron temperature is set for your hair rather than run at maximum for everyone.
How long it holds comes down to moisture in the air and how you sleep in it. Wrapping at night, or tying it down with a silk or satin scarf, makes a real difference. A week to two weeks is realistic for most people, less in damp weather.
We will not press hair that is already heat damaged, and we will tell you if we think that is what we are looking at. Repeated pressing on hair that has lost its curl memory makes the problem permanent, and a conditioning treatment first is usually the better call.
