Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning uses a sterile blade held at an angle to lift away dead surface skin and the fine vellus hair that sits on top of it. Skin feels noticeably smoother straight afterwards and makeup tends to sit better, which is why people often book it before an event.

The hair grows back exactly as it was. It does not come back thicker or darker, whatever you may have read. Vellus hair has a tapered tip and that is what makes it feel soft; the blunt end left after shaving is what makes stubble feel coarse, and dermaplaning does not create that on fine facial hair.

Skin is more exposed for a few days afterwards, so SPF is not optional and strong actives should be left alone for around a week. If you are prone to breakouts on the day of an event, book a few days ahead rather than the morning of.

It is not suitable during an active acne breakout, and we will say so rather than work around it.
